We have eliminated the “drop zone” to eliminate structure from the traditional DDM while maintaining the option to cut back door. We simply add the second cut concept to our skill development and decision making. There are three clear advantages to this approach.
First, players have more freedom within the offense rather than structuring the drop zone back cut to the corner. It also allows for better flow if the back cut is not open. There is no extra cut needed to reset the offense.
Second, you will spend far less practice time teaching “offense” and more time teaching concepts.
Lastly, the randomness of back cuts make it more difficult scout. Most DDM teams only back cut from the corner on dribble stops.
